Tungsten electrode in aluminum alloy welding refers to a non-consumable electrode used in aluminum and aluminum alloy TIG welding (Tungsten Inert Gas, TIG) and PAW (Plasma Arc Welding). The aluminum oxide film on the surface of aluminum has a melting point of approximately 2050°C, while the aluminum base metal melts at approximately 660°C. Alternating Current (AC) welding is required to simultaneously remove the oxide layer and melt the base material. The tungsten electrode provides a stable arc and electron emission, making it a critical material for welding quality.
1. How Do Tungsten Electrodes Work in Aluminum Alloy Welding?
The tungsten electrode and workpiece form an alternating arc in AC welding. During the positive half-cycle, cathodic cleaning removes the oxide film from the aluminum alloy surface. During the negative half-cycle, most of the heat is generated to melt the aluminum base metal and form the weld.
